Ben Soiefer

One of our talented engineers and mixers, Ben has a strong passion for sound design, foley, and searching for interesting sounds to record anywhere and everywhere he goes.

Ben started as our Studio Assistant in 2017 shortly after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Music and a minor in Audio and Music Engineering. Since then he has grown into a skilled mixer and meticulous editor, becoming one of our go-to engineers for recording sessions in his current role as Recording Engineer/Mixer. Being able to run sessions in many different configurations, including over Zoom, Source Connect, and ipDTL, Ben prides himself on his attention to detail and enjoys serving as a second set of ears for clients to make sure they get the most out of their studio time.

Over the past several years, Ben has developed a loyal client base as a sound designer, editor, and mixer for short films, winning the Best Sound Editing Award at The Festival of Cinema NYC for his work on Fear of Open Spaces(2021). He loves the creative challenge of the sound design process, as well as the rewarding nature of collaborating with filmmakers to bring their vision to life. Ben strives to put as much creativity and originality as he can into every project through seeking out and recording original sounds, as well as performing foley and using contact mics to transform mundane sound sources into more interesting sonic ingredients.

During his time at Sandblast, Ben has had the pleasure of working with a diverse array of clients including Bill Moyers, Sesame Street, David Byrne, ESPN, A&E, Wall Street Journal Custom Studios, and many more.
